Position Title: Director of Operations
Location: Sulam located at Berman Hebrew Academy, Rockville, MD
Position Type: Full-Time, In-Person
Hours: Monday–Thursday, 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM
Fridays:
Winter Hours: 8:15 AM – 2:00 PM
Fall & Spring Hours: 8:15 AM – 3:30 PM
Includes early dismissal for Jewish holidays and paid time off.

Position Overview
Sulam is seeking a highly organized and proactive Director of Operations to oversee and manage the administrative, operational, and logistical functions of the organization. This individual plays a vital role in ensuring that Sulam’s internal systems run smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with our mission. The Director of Operations is a key partner to the Executive Director and leadership team, supporting human resources, finance, admissions, communications, event planning, and infrastructure management.
Core Responsibilities1. Leadership & Executive Support
Serve as a support and partner to the Executive Director, administrative staff and Educational Directors
Attend and contribute to administrative team meetings
Manage the Executive Director’s calendar and scheduling
Interface with Berman’s operations team
2. Human Resources
Maintain complete and current employee records
Track faculty sick and personal leave
Maintain up-to-date staff rosters
Collaborate with the Executive Director to compile and disseminate the Faculty Handbook
Manage board compliance by distributing annual documents (July–September)
3. Finance & Accounting
Oversee billing, invoicing, and payroll processes
Manage banking, deposits, and check signing
Monitor account balances and coordinate transfers (e.g., payroll)
4. Admissions & Student Records
Distribute and collect enrollment paperwork
Liaise with Berman Admissions
Manage recruitment communications and packets
Maintain and update student records; generate and manage rosters
Track attendance and coordinate report card processes
Schedule FEP meetings and manage document distribution to families
5. Communications & Public Relations
Disseminate organizational calendars and mailings
Serve as the first point of contact for families and external stakeholders
Coordinate health-related communications with the school nurse
Monitor community listservs and coordinate communications with shuls
Draft and distribute letters and materials for community relations
Liaise with printers, mail houses, and copy center
Ensure all FEP templates and documents maintain a consistent and professional format
6. Event Planning & Coordination
Support logistics for workshops, meetings, and events
Coordinate spaces, refreshments, and setup (in person or via Zoom)
Send out calendar invites and prepare materials (e.g., board books)
Assist with digital platform management for events
7. Technology & Infrastructure Liaison
Act as primary liaison for IT, maintenance, and educational technology systems
Support troubleshooting and communication with Berman’s tech teams
8. Procurement & Supplies
Manage procurement of educational and office supplies for staff and classrooms
9. Development & Fundraising
Collaborate with the Executive Director and Director of Development on fundraising efforts
Process donations and manage related correspondence and mailings
10. Clerical & General Administrative Support
Provide general support across departments
Copy, prepare, and manage materials as needed
11. Digital Overhaul
Lead and support ongoing efforts to modernize and streamline digital systems and processes
Additional Responsibilities (Based on Qualifications)
Blackbaud Oversight: Manage all aspects of Blackbaud, including enrollment, class creation, transcript resolution, teacher support, and coordination with the Berman Blackbaud team
FEPs & Report Cards: Review and edit FEPs, manage digital filing, and support report card processing
Educational Documentation: Ensure student educational records are up to date and well organized
Admissions Support: Gather admissions data, manage paperwork, and support the admissions process as needed
Salary & Benefits
Annual Salary: $60K - $70k based on experience and responsibilities
