Position Overview

The Director of Educational Programs will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and coordination of Sulam’s instructional practices, student support processes, and professional development systems. This individual will support Sulam’s mission of inclusive, high-quality instruction by ensuring research-based approaches, driving planning and organizational structures, and supporting leadership staff in effective implementation of educational priorities. 

Key Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership & Curriculum Oversight

  • Ensure use of best practices and current, research-based instructional strategies across programs.

  • Review and guide curriculum materials, instructional tools, support methods.

  • Identify areas for instructional growth and recommend next steps.

  • Collaborate with the leadership team on alignment of curriculum and intervention strategies.

Professional Development (PD) Systems

  • Design annual and ongoing internal and external professional development plans including orientation prior to the start of the school year.

  • Develop PD goals based on student needs, staff feedback, and strategic initiatives.

  • Coordinate implementation, follow-up plans, and feedback loops.

  • Track PD outcomes and ensure alignment to instructional priorities.

Leadership Support & Organizational Planning

  • Create leadership meeting agendas that facilitate proactive planning, coordination, and accountability.

  • Meet individually with team leaders to support goal attainment and problem-solving.

  • Maintain oversight of key department calendars—including observation cycles, documentation timelines, PD schedules, reporting deadlines, and admissions milestones.

  • Ensure operational processes run efficiently through clear documentation and accountability structures.

  • Attend and participate in team meetings for all divisions.

Documentation, Planning, and Review

  • Edit FEP (Formal Educational Plan) documents for clarity, accuracy, and quality.

  • Monitor document compliance and timely submission.

  • Support teams in student data collection and summary development.

Admissions Oversight

  • Lead and manage admissions process: intake, tracking, scheduling, and communication timelines.

  • Write admissions summary documents 

  • Participate in recommendations for placement and support levels.

Organizational Systems & Resources

  • Design and maintain organized educational resource drives and shared materials.

  • Support systems that ensure legal, ethical, and internal standards are upheld.


Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-through skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and supportively with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience in instructional leadership within special education, inclusion programs, or related support fields.

  • Strong knowledge of research-based instructional practices and intervention strategies.

  • Demonstrated experience with school documentation processes, student support planning, admissions, or similar areas.
