Debra & Dennis Berman
Debra and Dennis Berman are longtime pillars of the Greater Washington Jewish community. They are known for their philanthropy and their deep dedication to the land of Israel. Dennis is a general partner of Berman Enterprises (a three generation family owned business), has been called the Master Builder of Orthodox Day Schools. Debra is involved in Jewish outreach, and is committed to promoting a strong US-Israel relationship, while advocating for pro-Israel policies. Team Debra and Dennis have left an indelible mark on hundreds of students at Berman Hebrew Academy through their sponsorship of the Berman Israel Mission, every four years over the past two decades. With their ‘no student left behind’ approach, they have provided the opportunity for every Berman and Sulam upper school student to participate in this once in a lifetime experience. Debra and Dennis are significant supporters of countless Jewish causes, schools, synagogues, and generously give of their time to our community.

Sharon Freundel attended Stern College for Women of Yeshiva University and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland. She did graduate work at Teacher’s College of Columbia University and earned a Masters of Arts Degree in Jewish Education at the Baltimore Hebrew University.
Following several years of working in the nursing field, Ms. Freundel became engaged in the teaching of Torah. She taught and was the department chair for Tanakh (Bible) and Torah SheBa’al Peh (Rabbinics) and was the Mashgichah Ruchanit (Spiritual Guidance Counselor) of the Upper School at the Berman Hebrew Academy. She then became the Director of Hebrew and Judaic Studies and subsequently, the Director of Jewish Life at the Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation’s Capital. She is now the Managing Director of the Jewish Education Innovation Challenge, a national organization whose mission is to catalyze radical improvement in Jewish Day Schools.
