Sulam Lower School at MJBHA

Grades K-5

In the Sulam Lower School at the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy (MJBHA), no two instructional programs are exactly alike. Through Sulam’s partnership with MJBHA, lower school Sulam students are able to benefit from varying amounts of Sulam self-contained and MJBHA mainstream classroom instruction. Sulam’s very low student to faculty ratio allows for optimal student achievement.

Emphasis is also placed on the development of appropriate social skills, problem-solving abilities, and self-confidence. Students meet weekly with the Sulam psychologist and develop a sense of pride in their abilities and in themselves.

Schedules for Sulam lower school students parallel the classroom scheduling of MJBHA students, featuring Judaic as well as secular instruction, ensuring frequent interaction with MJBHA peers. Sulam students also benefit from the myriad of extra-curricular activities offered by the MJBHA.

Other key components of our program include:

  • A formal educational program (FEP) is created and kept updated for each Sulam student.

  • The Sulam multi-disciplinary professional team meets weekly to monitor student progress.

  • Students have the opportunity receive speech therapy and/or occupational therapy during the school day.

  • Students benefit from the use of technologies such as SmartBoards, Kurzweil, Lexia and DragonSpeak.

  • Regular electronic updates are sent to Sulam parents to keep them up to date on their child’s progress.

We hope to have an opportunity to talk to you more about the Sulam Lower School program at MJBHA. To learn more, please call the Sulam business office at 301-962-9400, extension 5523.
