Strands and Services


Basic Strands

  1. Modified Self-Contained
    Students in this strand are provided with direct instruction by a Sulam special educator in the Sulam classroom for the majority of their day. For the rest of their day, they participate in one or more mainstream host school academic classes with or without support from Sulam staff. In addition, the students take part in host school davening, lunch, recess, art, music, gym and special activities with or without Sulam staff support.
     
  2. Mainstream with Adjunct 1:1 Support
    Students in this strand receive instruction in host school classes for the majority of their day with the support of a designated Sulam instructional assistant or teacher. When needed, they receive additional instruction in the Sulam classroom.
     
  3. Supplemental Students
    Supplemental students are host school students who enroll in Sulam part-time. The maximum number of Sulam services offered for supplemental students is 2 self-contained Sulam classes, psychological services, and educational coordination.

  1. Therapies –provided for fee by Sulam designated professionals during school hours
    (Therapists are part of Sulam multidisciplinary team)
    a. Occupational Therapy
    b. Speech and Language Therapy
    c. Physical Therapy
     
  2. Psychological Services
    a. Individual Counseling
    b. Social Skills Groups
    c. Circle of Friends
     
  3. Educational Coordination (case management)
    Every student is assigned an educational coordinator who communicates regularly with all teachers, both host school and Sulam.
     
  4. Hybrid Classes
    Hybrid classes are taught by Sulam teachers at MJBHA. They follow MJBHA curriculum and are developed based on the requirements of MJBHA students and faculty. Hybrid class instruction is individualized and classes include both Sulam and MJBHA students.
